David Oscarson - Route 66 - Roller Ball Pen Lavender, Mossy Black & Ivory

THE DESIGN

Created for the 100th anniversary of Route 66 (1926–2026), the Mother Road that ran 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica. Using David Oscarson's multi-level background engraving, the cap and barrel carry a smooth opaque "asphalt" highway against shimmering guilloché under translucent hot enamel, with each of the eight states along the route given its own guilloché pattern outlined in high relief. Art Deco diners, vintage gas pumps, hotels and motels line the road. The solid sterling silver clip is sculpted as a vintage neon motel sign, the iconic Route 66 shield stands in high relief and hot enamel on top of the cap, and a high-relief "End of the Trail" accent recalls the Santa Monica pier. This roller ball is finished in Lavender, Mossy Black & Ivory with polished .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand — is applied with a quill and kiln-fired at temperatures exceeding 1,400 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The result is a depth of colour and lustre that will never fade.

THE COLLECTION

The Route 66 Collection is the 43rd in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments, honouring the centenary of America's Main Street. Each colour variation is limited to 66 pieces, available as fountain pen or roller ball, and every piece is numbered.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
