David Oscarson - Sankta Lucia - Roller Ball Pen Black, White, Red & Green / Gold Vermeil

THE DESIGN

Saint Lucia, martyred c. 304 and remembered in Sweden every 13th of December. Her white robe and red sash appear on the barrel, a Roman sword forms the clip and the Roman numeral XIII sits at the base of the barrel. Contrasting smoke and flames are featured on the cap in guilloché and hot enamel; the lingonberry wreath and candles are depicted on the gripping section and top of the cap, and a diamond-set burst of light crowns the piece. This roller ball is finished in Black, White, Red & Green with 18-karat gold vermeil over .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand with a mortar and pestle — is applied with a quill, kiln-fired at over 1,000 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The pieces are then polished and buffed to the velvet finish of true translucent hard enamel. A five-year apprenticeship is required to master the process.

The Sankta Lucia Collection is the 26th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Produced as a numbered limited edition. Set with a diamond at the crown.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
