THE DESIGN

Hand-crafted in solid sterling silver for fellow fossil-fuel enthusiasts, TITTL captures the thrill of driving and the open road. A carbon-fibre guilloché pattern lies beneath the hot enamel; the cap dials show speedometer, tachometer, oil, engine temperature and fuel. A gear shift sits in high relief on the crown, the clip is an elongated piston, racing stripes run the barrel opposite a Number 1, and the gripping section reads "If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough". This roller ball is finished in British Racing Green / Carbon Black with polished .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand with a mortar and pestle — is applied with a quill, kiln-fired at over 1,000 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The pieces are then polished and buffed to the velvet finish of true translucent hard enamel. A five-year apprenticeship is required to master the process.

THE COLLECTION

The Take It to the Limit Collection is the 36th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Each colour variation is limited to 100 pieces, including fountain pen and roller ball styles, and every piece is numbered. Many pieces are fired 15 to 20 times, each colour of enamel requiring its own firing temperature.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
