THE DESIGN

A tribute to the Corps of Discovery of 1804–1806. Each piece carries a map of the Louisiana Purchase marking the trail from St. Louis to Fort Clatsop, with the explorer's signature in high relief over a background of river currents. The Meriwether Lewis features a telescope clip and a compass rose on the barrel; the William Clark holds a feathered clip and the Peace Medal given to the chiefs along the trail. This roller ball is finished in William Clark - Sapphire Blue with polished .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand with a mortar and pestle — is applied with a quill, kiln-fired at over 1,000 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The pieces are then polished and buffed to the velvet finish of true translucent hard enamel. A five-year apprenticeship is required to master the process.

THE COLLECTION

The Lewis & Clark Collection is the 15th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Each colour variation is limited to 100 pieces, including fountain pen and roller ball styles, and every piece is numbered.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
