David Oscarson - Sea Turtles - Roller Ball Pen Ocean Blue

THE DESIGN

A salt-water companion to the Koi Collection. Three sea turtles coast through a coral reef while ocean currents, schools of fish and angelfish surround the seascape in high and low relief. The tortoise-shell gripping section is complemented by a coral clip; 亀 (Turtle) appears in high relief on the top of the cap and 海 (Sea) at the bottom, with David Oscarson engraved in Japanese script on the cap ring. This roller ball is finished in Ocean Blue with polished .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand with a mortar and pestle — is applied with a quill, kiln-fired at over 1,000 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The pieces are then polished and buffed to the velvet finish of true translucent hard enamel. A five-year apprenticeship is required to master the process.

THE COLLECTION

The Sea Turtles Collection is the 33rd in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Each colour variation is limited to 88 pieces, including fountain pen and roller ball styles, and every piece is numbered.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
