HANDCRAFTED IN GREECE
Manopoulos has made games in Greece since 1970 — from Costas Manopoulos’s first bronze chess pieces to today’s workshop in Thebes, where every board is still cut, veneered and finished by hand. This piece comes to Canada exclusively through El Laguito Cigars.
THE DESIGN
A traditional Greek tavli board in Mahogany replica veneer — mahogany with black and oak points — folded into a case with brass-finish hinges and clasp, exactly as the game has been played in Greek kafeneia for generations.
THE CRAFT
Cut, veneered and finished by hand in the Manopoulos workshop in Thebes. The playing field is printed and sealed for a smooth, durable surface; the case closes on itself so the pieces travel inside it.
IN THE BOX
Board, 30 wooden checkers, two dice and, on the 48 × 26 cm and 38 × 20 cm sizes, a pair of dice cups. The 30 × 17 cm and 20 × 12 cm sizes come without dice cups.
