JOHNSTONS OF ELGIN - UMBRA THROW

WOVEN IN SCOTLAND SINCE 1797
Johnstons of Elgin has made cloth beside the River Lossie in Elgin since 1797, and is one of the few houses that still takes fibre from raw material to finished piece in its own Scottish mills. It holds Royal Warrants to His Majesty The King and to Her Majesty The Queen.

THE DESIGN
Colour moves gradually from one shade to the next along the length of the throw. Scapa runs through greys and sea-blues to navy; Cairn through charcoal and rust to stone.

THE CRAFT
Pure cashmere — the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat — dyed, spun and woven in the Johnstons of Elgin mill, where colour is engineered in the house dyehouse before the fibre is spun. Selected pieces are finished by hand in the Elgin atelier.
