Cylinder or Rectangular, Two or Three: Choosing a Bosquet-Paris Case

Summary · 1 min read · The Bosquet-Paris Journal
Bosquet-Paris calf leather rectangular cigar case for two cigars in Tan

Every Bosquet-Paris case shares the same construction: three plies, a vegetal-tanned lining and room for cigars up to 58 ring gauge. What changes is the silhouette, the capacity and the colour.

Two Silhouettes

The cylinder case holds each cigar in its own tube — the most protective and the most classic. The rectangular case sits flatter and slips into a jacket pocket or a travel bag.

The silhouette decides the pocket; the capacity decides the evening.

Two or Three Cigars

Two cigars for a dinner; three for a weekend. In Canada, calf comes in ten colours, crocodile in five and ostrich in two — plus the Savane patina and stingray cases.

Every Bosquet-Paris case is made the same way: a three-ply build of leather, a rigid carton structure and a vegetal-tanned leather lining, a single line of stitching and the 22-carat gold signature. Capacity is the same too — every case takes cigars up to 58 ring gauge. The choice comes down to three things: the silhouette, how many cigars you carry, and the colour.

Cylinder cases

The cylinder case gives each cigar its own tube. It is the most protective of the two shapes, because the cigar cannot shift or press against its neighbour, and it is the silhouette most people picture when they think of a Paris cigar case. It sits well in an inside jacket pocket, a coat pocket or a bag.

Rectangular cases

The rectangular case holds the cigars side by side in a flatter body. It takes up less depth, which makes it the better choice for a slim jacket, a travel pouch or a glovebox, and its broad faces show off an exotic skin — crocodile scales or ostrich quill — to best effect.

Two or three cigars

A two-cigar case is the everyday choice: one for you and one to share, or two for a long evening. A three-cigar case suits a weekend away or a day on the water. In the Canadian collection, calf leather is offered in both shapes and both capacities; crocodile, ostrich and stingray come in two-cigar cases.

Colour

Calf leather comes in the widest range — Capri Blue, Dark Forest, Light Brown, Black, Dark Brown and Violet in the two-cigar cylinder; Capri Blue, Red and Dark Brown in the three-cigar cylinder; Blue Lapis, Tan, Black, Red and Dark Brown in the two-cigar rectangular; Black and Palissander in the three-cigar rectangular — plus the hand-patinated Savane rectangular case. Crocodile is offered in Cherry Red and Dark Brown (cylinder) and Black, Navy Blue and Burgundy (rectangular). Ostrich comes as an Orange ostrich belly rectangular and a Tobacco Brown ostrich leg rectangular, and there is a single stingray-and-calf rectangular case.

If you only choose one

For a first Bosquet-Paris case, the two-cigar calf cylinder in Dark Brown or Black is the piece that goes everywhere. For a gift, a colour — Capri Blue, Violet or Red — says more. For something that will be noticed, the ostrich belly rectangular in Orange. El Laguito Cigars is happy to advise on colour and format.
