Revered in Chinese tradition since 3000 BC, the Dragon is the ultimate emblem of good fortune, power and happiness, believed to command rain, rivers and seas. In the Chinese Five Elements system, 2012 was a Water year linked to the colour black, making it the year of the Black Water Dragon, which this collection celebrates.
The Water Dragon is said to be a gifted negotiator, less selfish and power-hungry than other dragons, and everything connected with the Dragon is considered blessed. On each pen, the ancient Chinese symbol for water is left standing in mid or high relief after the entire body is cut down to the level of the background.
Multiple levels of guilloché engraving are combined with translucent and opaque hard enamel, repeatedly kiln-fired and filed by hand for the enduring finish of true hard enamel, and finished in gold vermeil.
The Collection — The 18th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Produced in two primary colour variations, each limited to 88 pieces, fountain pen and roller ball combined.
