David Oscarson - Nikola Tesla - Roller Ball Pen Red, Orange, Yellow, White & Purple II / Gold Vermeil

THE DESIGN

A tribute to the man who invented the 20th century. Tesla's signature is displayed in high relief on the barrel with a rotating magnetic field and the symbol for alternating current; the Tesla coil is engraved in low relief in the background and the gripping section carries his AC generator and induction motor drawings. High-relief electricity surrounds the Tesla Tower clip, an X-ray of Tesla's hand sits in the low-relief coil on the cap, the tesla unit of magnetic flux density stands on the crown and his beloved white pigeon rests against the breast. This roller ball is finished in Red, Orange, Yellow, White & Purple II with 18-karat gold vermeil over .925 sterling silver.

THE CRAFT

Hand-crafted from .925 sterling silver. Each component passes through multiple stages of precision engraving to create the guilloché pattern, then hard enamel — glass, water and metal oxides ground by hand with a mortar and pestle — is applied with a quill, kiln-fired at over 1,000 °F, filed back by hand with a diamond file and fired again until the enamel fills every valley of the engraving. The pieces are then polished and buffed to the velvet finish of true translucent hard enamel. A five-year apprenticeship is required to master the process.

THE COLLECTION

The Nikola Tesla Collection is the 35th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Each colour variation is limited to 86 pieces, including fountain pen and roller ball styles, and every piece is numbered.

THE WRITING

The roller ball version of the collection — the same sterling silver, guilloché and hard-enamel body as the fountain pen, with a capped roller ball section that takes a standard roller ball refill for an effortless, consistent line.
