THE DESIGN
Hoplites, kings and the armies of Sparta as metal chessmen with a 5.4 cm king, on a 28 × 28 cm brass chessboard set into a wooden case — in gold and silver or blue and brass.

THE CRAFT
Manopoulos began with metal chessmen in 1970 and still casts them in Greece: each piece is moulded, finished and patinated by hand, then paired with a handcrafted brass chessboard set into a wooden case.
