Manopoulos has made games in Greece since 1970 — from Costas Manopoulos’s first bronze chess pieces to today’s workshop in Thebes, where every board is still cut, veneered and finished by hand. This piece comes to Canada exclusively through El Laguito Cigars.
THE DESIGN
The full-size Manopoulos chess set: a separate inlaid chessboard and a luxury wooden storage box for the weighted Staunton chessmen. Walnut, olive burl or walnut burl veneer, in 40 cm and 50 cm board sizes.
THE CRAFT
Board and box are veneered and finished by hand in Thebes; the squares are inlaid wood. The chessmen are turned, weighted and felted Staunton pieces sized to the board.
