December 21, 2012 marked the close of the 13-Baktun cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar and the rare galactic alignment of the winter solstice sun with the Milky Way's Dark Rift. This collection is a tribute to the enduring wisdom of Mayan culture and the precision with which it charted the heavens, viewing the date as one of spiritual transformation and renewal.
The date 12-21-2012 is set in high relief on the cap at 4 Ahau, with the blowgunner on top of the cap. The clip shows the end date in dot-and-bar numeration above a ball-court symbol, while 13.0.0.0.0 at the base of the barrel and 0.0.0.0.0 atop the cap represent midnight and dawn. The barrel tells the story of the proud Seven Macaw beneath the Milky Way, toppled by the Hero Twins as One Hanahpu returns, and the gripping section repeats the steps of the Mayan temples four times.
Guilloché engraving is combined with multi-coloured opaque and translucent hard enamel, kiln-fired and hand-filed, with two variations finished in gold vermeil.
The Collection — The 14th in the David Oscarson series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Produced in five colour variations, each limited to 52 pieces, fountain pen and roller ball combined.
